Windows 10 & MS Surface Go - Losing shared network access after sleep

Hi buddies,

I’ve run across a minor inconvenience but an inconvenience nonetheless. I have a user running Windows 10 on an MS Surface Go. Like most other computer users on our network, he has to regularly access files on the file share server.

He encounters the problem when he logs back in on the PC after it has been in sleep mode. Before the PC entered sleep mode, he left a file explorer window open with a view of whatever shared folder or file he was using at the time. Now that he has logged back in, he attempts to open one of these shared files or folders and fails.

01. The error message says “Location is not available Z:\ is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you’re connected to the network or Internet, and then try again. If the location still can’t be found, it might have been moved or deleted.”

So he closes file explorer, opens it back up and presto, the shared drive mapped Z and all necessary file shares are available.

Has anybody similar to this?

Thanks in advance!

Check your network adapters power management.

Right Click on Start > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Right Click on the Adapter > Properties > Power Management Tab and uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
