Hi,

My disk is about to get replaced by HP on replacement warranty. So, before giving to them I am planning to wipe the disk completely.

What is the best simple software to use for disk wipping?

My one and only suggestion is dban. Darik’s Boot and Nuke, also known as DBAN, is a free and open-source project hosted on SourceForge. The program is designed to securely erase a hard disk until its data is permanently removed.

To start, you have to download DBAN. You can do this on the same computer you’re going to erase or on an entirely different one. However you do it, the goal is to get the ISO file downloaded and then burned to a bootable device like a CD or flash drive.

Visit the DBAN download page (shown above) and then select the green download button.

Hi @tjnihal, Using rufus I made the bootable USB for dban. When I tried to run dban in the BIOS I am getting the following error:

cat: can't open '/proc/cmdline': No such file or directory

Do you have any idea?

So many has mentioned the same issue with that version. Please try the lower version, you can download the version 2.2.8 version this link dban-2.2.8 this won’t give you the above error.

Hi , I Suggest you to use dban as i have already used it many times .
dban version 2.2.8 is working best for me .

You can open Windows Disk Manager by pressing Windows and R keys on the keyboard at the same time, and then input diskmgmt.msc. In the Disk Manager window, right-click the disk you’d like to wipe clean and click Format. You can also use Windows Diskpart tool to clean all data on selected hard drive.
