I have a new laptop with Win 10 installed. However, updates are a no-no for me, because every time I manually search for them, I get the error code 0x80240fff. Did anyone get this and how did you fix it?

Error Code 0x80240fff is quite common for Windows 10 users, especially those who use Windows 10 build 10240. Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet and check whether the network adapter and Windows Update services are running correctly.
If they are all right, follow below steps to fix the update issue now:

Press Windows + X and select Control panel.

In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting.

Under System and Security, click Fix problems with Windows Updates.
If the above steps was not helpful then you need to restart windows update service to do this follow the below steps:

Press Windows key + R key, and type services.msc in the text box.

Locate Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) from the list.

Right-click the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) service, and then click Properties.

On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic (Delayed Start) is selected. If it isn’t, select it, and then click Apply.

Next to Service status, check to see if the service is started. If it isn’t, click Start.
