Frequent gray screen in the Windows explorer on windows 10 PC

Hi IT experts,

I am dealing a interesting issue on one of my users laptop. Some of his windows turn grey and become clickable. Basically the top part, usually the ribbon on Windows explorer, turns the same color as the window background, and all the icons disappear. The odd part is it’s not the monitor, you can drag another window on top of the “broken” window and the new window will work fine.

I tried to updated his graphics card to the latest driver, thinking that might work. But I don’t find any updates it was already up to dates So, I tried to uninstall and reinstall the graphic driver.

The only thing that seems to fix it temporarily, is rebooting. I cannot ask him to do reboot while every time he face this issue. So, I need a way to deal this issue. at this point, I am fighting the user over reinstalling Windows, so I wanted to reach out to see if anyone has seen this issue.

Hello @christopher

If you share the screen shot it would be better to diagnose and resolve the problem.
In the meanwhile you check the following steps.

You can do one thing you start system with safe mode or safe mode with networking then observe that problem is it appears in safe mode also if no then run msconfig command and disable unnecessary programs from startup tab.
