IE has stopped working, collecting information error

Hi all. After checking out some of the potential solutions, I am trying to the community for help. Lately, when I have one tab open and then open another to download images, I get this message following the download (which works fine between): “IE has stopped working, collecting information…” After looking into the crash logs in Reliability History, it seems that iertutil.dll is causing issues. How does one approach this? I never did anything with it, so I am not sure how it got corrupted/moved/edited. Any sort of advice would be really helpful at this point.

download .dll files from here iertutil.dll free download | DLL‑
if you have 64bit windows you need to download both 64bit and 32bit iertutil.dll files.
the default folder for *32bit DLL-files is C:\Windows\SysWOW64* and for *64bit dll-files C:\Windows\System32*

Install any available Windows updates. Many service packs and other patches replace or update some of the hundreds of Microsoft distributed DLL files on your computer. The iertutil.dll file could be included in one of those updates.

Download the .dll file here : iertutil.dll free download | DLL‑
and Extract the file and paste the .dll file to these directories.

If you can’t open Internet Explorer, if it freezes, or if it opens briefly and then closes, the problem might be caused by low memory or damaged system files. Try this:

  • Open Internet Explorer and select Tools > Internet options .
  • Select the Advanced tab, and then select Reset .
  • In the Reset Internet Explorer settings dialog box, select Reset .
  • When Internet Explorer finishes applying the default settings, select Close > OK .
  • Restart your PC to apply the changes.
