Inmotion hosting server went down

Hello. I have a VPS server that I’ve been using for a long time now by Inmotion hosting. My server went down, and I really don’t know the reason why. It was working perfectly, but now they ask me to upgrade it? Why do I need to do that? Is there some configuration problem on their part?
