Network and Sharing on my 1803 system are not working. I have two home systems and only one can share files. The other will connect to my router and internet but can not discover the other system. When file sharing is set on it is off the next time I look. Discovery won’t come on.
Please check the below image I have turn on network discovery for the private profile.
When I try to set up a new network connection the system starts a search for a network and warns me this should take about 90 seconds. It never finishes the search and responds with a blank window. When I go to “Advanced Sharing Options” and change the option to enable file sharing and then close the window,…the change never takes effect. When I re-open the window the option is back to “Disable” file sharing.
When I run the “System File checker” it takes 10 minutes and never finds any problem with system files.
My other system,…which is at the same 1803 level with all updates installed seems to work fine. It can see the other system and it can actually access and change any or all files on the broken system.
Please help.
Hello,
For now here are some fixes that are reported to work: https://windowsunplugged.blog/2018/03/27/networ…
This is another fix that’s working for Version 1803 breaking networks. Please try it and report back:
- shut all computer and network gear down then start again.
- Try browsing to some of the computers manually, press Windows key + R, type: \computername, hit Enter
- Press Windows key + R
Type: services.msc
Hit Enter
- Start the “Function Discovery Provider Host” and “Function Discovery Resource Publication” services, and then set them to Automatic (Delayed Start).
- When you open Explorer Network, enable network discovery when you are prompted.
If not then start over and set it up again: https://pureinfotech.com/setup-network-file-sha…
If it still fails go over these troubleshooting steps: https://www.lifewire.com/troubleshooting-window…
If you want to report this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. But Microsoft will not even see it here because this is a tech forums where we are mostly volunteers trying to help solve your problems.
If you want to post back a share link to your Feedback others who find this thread may add to it or vote it up, and I will try to elevate it to get priority attention.
Hello
Disable firewall on PC and try to ping it with lan IP address.
open cmd and type ping x.x.x.x-(ip address of your PC)
if it pings, open run windows and type //x.x.x.x-(ip address of shared PC) and try to connect it
