Ransomware attack on old computer

Hi people! Recently, one of my older computers fell victim to ransomware (my son opened up some unsafe websites and hackers got hold of all files in there). They are asking for bitcoins in a message that flashes across the screen. Since it is old, nothing of importance is stored there, however I want to know for future reference - what to do in this situation, how can I “decrypt” myself from them?
